Age range: 6-8

Main Criteria

• providing clear, meaningful yet flexible plan for the activity, its purpose and perspective for presentation of the results
• presence of supportive materials that make the issue of first words books accessible to children
• technical equipment, printing and art crafts accessories
• creating the atmosphere of trust and cooperation
• flexibility in the caregiving accompaniment (more than one person may assist the child in realizing the activity)
• connecting any proposal to the children’s experience and perspective
• valuing all languages (languages of the school curriculum, languages of origin, minority languages, dialects, but you may also consider body communication, other codes communication), not only the languages more represented, but even if only a child speaks a language

Aims

• Strengthening identification with heritage language
  
• Supporting inner family ties by including parents and other caregivers into the proces
• Supporting thinking about multilingual development
• Supporting multilingual approach and competences of all, parents, children and community worker
• Introducing systematic work on one topic &strengthening presenting skills – therefore supporting the process of family transition into school years
• Supporting/encouraging disadvantaged families and communities in using their own cultural and linguistic resources in their day-to-day life with children

Competencies

• Children: age can vary, from last year of pre-school to 1st grade of elementary school (5-7), ideally attending school and visiting community center on regular basis
• Parents/caregivers: the ones that most actively assist a child in the school attendance. ICT skills: not required if community workers provide.
• Community workers/volunteers: systematic work with families towards creating, sharing and using the pictures, possibly as part of the seasonal afterschool program, etc., will and ability to reflect on their knowledge and attitudes toward the intercultural education and plurilingualism, basic editing skills
